    Hey Guys,
I am teaching a bunch of high schoolers about online journalism.  In my presentation, I will talk about how to differentiate between an accurate and well-sourced news site and a Web site that's simply based on someone's personal opinion.  I will also, however, be talking about page design.  I think a lot of high schoolers don't know the first thing about what makes a good or bad Web page.  I was wondering if you guys could provide any links to your favorite Web sites (design and content-wise).  I'm also looking for examples of horrible Web sites.  These sites can be news related or anything else.  I just want to show these kids great Web sites and horrible Web sites to compare and contrast.  Thanks so much!

I just need some clarification as it's been a while since I had to think about specific aspects.
My boss wants something printed in one colour as it's cheaper (obviously).
Does that mean it has to be JUST cyan or whatever the ink colour? I was thinking that if you make a colour out of all 4 inks, that it's a 4 colour document, even if it's the same colour in everything.
He has images that are just that shade of blue, and yet he wants a 1 colour document. Do I make a duo-tone (white+cyan/pantone ink)? How do you guys handle the situation?

    Thanks!

Okay, a few problems, more than likely related, but who knows.

    1) I cannot for the life of me print directly from Illustrator CS or InDesign CS. It says:
Print Error: The Adobe Print Engine has failed to print your document due to an unknown problem
    Very helpful, eh?

    2) When I make a PDF from an InDesign project that includes an image from Illustrator and print it out, there's a italicized exclamation mark inserted in one of the spaces between some of the words in the Illustrator image. The text is all rastorized, so I have no idea why it's there.
I'd show an image, but this is on the printed document, not the actual PDF.
    Very fishy...

So, Intel iMac CoreDuo is the system. Adobe Creative Suite CS is the software package with the problems.
Don't know if that helps any.

Could it be a problem with the print driver, or something else related to it? I've updated my printer's driver, and nothing changed, still the same thing.
If you need to know what the printed image in question looks like, I can scan it.

    Thank you!

    Venice Chronicles
Hey, I'm Tessa. I'm an actress for a website that just released itself online last week. The design is still at times kinda funky (our programmers in Romania are working hard). I personally have a mac, and get funks in the system sometimes, but I wanted to see what others thought of the site. It's getting super better every single day.

I'll give a discription of the site, and then check it out on your own means if you'd like.

Online there's an interesting Masquerade that's happening. It's called the 'Venice Chronicles'. It takes place in Venice, in no real time frame. There's an entire lore that surrounds the Venice Chronicles as well, and real actors that help guide the story.

It's a Flash based system, that incorporates a AI called Valentina inside. You can use the site to do regular chat, voice chat, and video chat. If you go into the "VIP clubs" you can have up to 5 people Video Chatting. Also it has an ability to do anonymous text messages, and phone calls through a system called JahJa.

Best way to describe it is a SubCulture - Social Network - RPG - with a romantic twist (Venice without a Romantic Twist wouldn't be Venice).

Look Behind the Cut for Pictures and more! )

But the easiest way to experience the Venice Chronicles is to check it out yourself. VeniceChronicles.com. Hope to see you guys there!

    Questionnaire
    Hi everyone!
I'm new here,  but expect to come back soon enough with real insight and input.  In the meantime, I'm working on a tech report (whoever said going back to college would be easy needs to be shot on sight) and could use your help.

I've developed a questionnaire for web designers/developers and would love your input.  It will be used for a feasibility report that will analyze and recommend a core set of web languages for training and hiring employees of, say, a small webdesign company.  I am willing to forward to anyone the completed report if requested and am also willing to provide copies of other assignments that have been part of this report.  After all, I look at unsolicited surveys like this with quite a bit of skepticism and usually want some background.

If you frequent other webdesign forums/communities, please excuse the likelihood of verbatim cross posting, as I am desperately in need of responses (I need quantifiable results within two weeks, yikes!) and don't much have the time to rewrite an introduction six times.

If you have additional input beyond what I'm asking in the survey, please feel free to give your opinions.  Thanks in advance for your time and help.

    ~Ang

1.What web languages do you currently code in?

    Organizational Question - X- posted
I have, for all these years, been using an archiving system for my PSD files that is really terrible. I am sure there is a better way. I am not impressed with Version Cue at all. What I need is a seamless and quick way to organize files and back them up daily.

How do you all out there organize and back up your files when working on large projects with multiple designs and different document types?

    Hey guys,

I'm an amateur as far as web design goes, so I play with stuff but I don't know too much about how to deal with certain codes. So here goes my question:
How do I password-protect a single page hosted by Freewebs.com?

I can give more details if you need. Just let me know.

    Thanks in advance.

    PC Recommendations for PS?
I'm thinking that it might be time for a new pc so I can work with Photoshop CS2 and not have these "pauses". What I mean is, PS's windows will go white and then the info in the window will appear. I thought it might be a redrawing problem so I got a 128 meg video card. Then got a ram upgrade to 1 gb.

    I'm running a 2.8ghz P4 with HyperThreading and XP SP2.

Thoughts on what to do? Suggestions on a new processor? The AMD/Intel processors make no sense to me anymore. Used to be look at the Ghz and know what's faster than a different processor but now with Core, Core Duo, 64, etc. I can't make heads or tales on what's what and I have tried to find a comparrison chart but have had little success with Google when I look.

    Thanks,
    Chris

p.s. Please, don't just say "Get a MAC". I've got a lot of programs and things for the Windows platform.

    SSI Inquiry
I'm interested in using a SSI call for my site's navigation system, and was curious if anybody could give me a few pointers on how to do this.

Most SSI that I've used has been a random HTML script line-call, so I'm a little uncertain how to proceed with setting up a file that can:

Have img src with imagemap attributes.

This SSI call will be implemented in normal HTML pages, Agoracart, PostNuke, and perhaps WordPress.

    Advice is most appreciated.

    Thank you.

radio station / community club script?
I'm looking at creating a club for a radio station like the "at work network" type groups that are out there on FM radio station. You join the club, fill out the info and then you get notified of upcoming events. Some stations need you to be a member of a club before you can sign up for contests.

Any one know what I am talking about?

    My in-progress website is here.

As you can see, I have a "featured" section that will change routinely. It is part of the layout on every single page.

When I want to update and change the title, I have to go through each page of my website in order to do so.

I have "death note" and "milk crown" on the index.html page right now. If I want to add "Saiyuki" to the list, I'll have to go to the codes in my Site History, Contact, Queue, etc. etc. pages and manually change the link.

Is there anyway I can update once, and all the pages automatically updates as well?

    Thanks.

    Help please?
Hi! I'm new and I need help.
I know a bit about HTML, but absoloutley nothing about CSS. I've copy pasted my layout for my neopets lookup from a graphics site, but for some reason all the text is coming up black, instead of white like it does in the preview of the layout. Does anyone know how to change it to white? I've copy pasted the code for my entire user look up behind the cut so I don't mess up your friends pages =)

    voila )

Thanks in advance for your help=)

EDIT: Well, that failed horribly. Ok, here's a link to where I got the code from.(sorry, I'm not trying to pimp the site or anything) There's already a mistake in there, one extra bracket on the fourth line down where it says fixed}i.solookup} should be fixed}i.solookup So back to the original question, how do I make all the text white? =)
